Electromatic / Centralmed: opening doors to OHS in everyday life

Since its founding in 2004, Electromatic has based its work, as a specialist in gates and automation, on the principles of credibility, safety, and quality. However, the lack of specialized support in the area of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) posed multiple challenges to the company’s operations. The establishment of a partnership with Centralmed proved essential. After all, building a culture of workplace safety is a crucial element for the success of organizations and the well-being of workers.

What is Electromatic and what was its challenge?

With nearly two decades of activity, Electromatic is now positioned as a leading player in the sector of automatic systems for doors, garage gates, barriers, industrial gates, grilles, docking systems, and fire doors/curtains.

The company operates in three segments, namely: installation, preventive maintenance, and technical assistance. Additionally, its operations are primarily concentrated in the Greater Lisbon area. However, it has carried out work throughout the national territory, from the mainland to the islands.

The culture of Electromatic is built on three fundamental pillars: the ability to innovate, focus on the quality of the solutions presented, and customer satisfaction. However, adherence to these guiding principles was compromised by difficulties in maintaining satisfactory quality standards in the area of OHS.

What solution did Electromatic find?

Miguel Amaro, Head of the Maintenance Department at Electromatic, explains that the company had a service contract for OHS services with another provider. However, the solutions offered did not adequately fit the organization’s profile and type of activity.

Thus, he reveals that, at that stage, they faced obstacles in this area, particularly because they were unable to “meet the needs for the preparation of specific documentation,” required under the current legislation (Decree-Law No. 273/2003, of October 29).

In this context, Electromatic showed an inability to develop and update Safety Procedure Sheets (SPS) or to assess occupational risks on sites, for example.

"A decisive episode for Electromatic takes us back to the moment when we were awarded a job at height, which involved the risk of falling. The client requested an SPS. The lack of response from our previous OHS service provider compromised this work and our client. We then decided to contact Centralmed. Today, we highlight Centralmed's ability to meet our specific needs, as well as to provide a wide range of services."

What results were achieved?

At this point of reflection, Electromatic emphasizes “the agility and availability that Centralmed consistently presents.” In the words of Miguel Amaro, this collaboration process between the two entities has been characterized from the start as swift and modern: “The professionalism that Centralmed demonstrates has pleasantly surprised us,” he concludes.

The company also highlights the inherent importance of centralizing all contracted services with a single provider: from Occupational Safety to Occupational Medicine, including Training. The latter is, in fact, an indispensable area for the sustained growth of any organization.

Praising the close ties that bind Electromatic Heandtromatic Centralmed, the CentralmedMiguel Amaro, who plays an active role in the company’s management, emphasizes the readiness of the response to urgent challenges that inevitably, arise in daily:
