Cozy / Centralmed: safety, comfort, and sharing at the table

In the year 2018, the Cozy restaurant opened its doors, the result of a joint effort between two partners, chefs with extensive experience in the fields of catering and hospitality. What is Cozy and what was its challenge?

Located in Campolide, a typical Lisbon neighborhood, the Cozy restaurant embraces the fundamental mission of becoming “a reference,” thus resisting the temptation to become just “another trendy restaurant.” This is stated by Tiago Vaz Santos, chef and managing partner, who adds: “Every day we prepare good food, comfort food, that takes us back to childhood memories, to the smells of our grandmothers’ kitchens, with a contemporary presentation.”

Their core identity is the concept of “shared cuisine.” Aiming to provide moments of conviviality and pleasure at the table, they assert that each dish at Cozy is prepared with genuine passion for cooking. “This love is infused into the meals we prepare for consumption in the restaurant, as well as for the catering and events we participate in,” concludes Tiago Vaz Santos.

Constant since the early days of this establishment, the Cozy defines the role of the Centralmed as “precious.” From supporting the implementation processes of the kitchen and dining area before opening, to safety training for employees, including Occupational Medicine, trust is certainly the main ingredient of this partnership.

What solution did Cozy find?

Tiago Vaz Santos explains that when choosing an OSH company, the two partners did not hesitate. This is because they were already clients of Centralmed in the companies where they worked. In this sense, they state that “Centralmed has been present in the life of our company since day 0.”

Initially, the work focused mainly on preparing the space, adhering to all current standards and legislation. In this process, the specialization of Centralmed professionals in the areas of Occupational Safety and Food Safety proved to be essential.

Subsequently, areas of focus included: providing and constantly updating all necessary documentation and mandatory display signs; guidance on best practices regarding hygiene and food safety; raising team awareness of the risks inherent in food preparation, cooking, and preservation.

Nevertheless, the chef and managing partner highlights, among all the adversities that emerged during this journey, the obstacles that Cozy had to face during the COVID-19 pandemic:

“Over these 5 years, we have faced many challenges. However, the pandemic showed us that we had a solid partnership with Centralmed. The development of the contingency plan, support in its implementation, and availability in disseminating necessary information at each stage of the pandemic, for example, allowed us to continue working (whenever possible), and above all, to convey a sense of security to our employees and customers.”

What results were achieved?

The results of the partnership between Cozy and Centralmed, established in 2018, are quite significant. Notably, the company did not record any workplace accidents from its opening until the end of 2022. This fact certainly reflects the prioritization of worker safety in the restaurant’s daily operations.

In this regard, regular medical consultations for employees also play an essential role. According to the managing partner of Cozy, the work carried out in the field of occupational health is distinguished by “excellent physical conditions and the excellence of its professionals.” Thus, he notes that Centralmed is “an excellent partner in promoting health and preventing disease among our employees.”

Furthermore, Tiago Vaz Santos emphasizes the importance of “continuous awareness actions,” which enable the constant deepening of the team’s knowledge, vital for “achieving the commitment to produce and market safe food.” In this regard, the chef also mentions the importance of the “extensive documentation accessible through the blog of Centralmed, which can be shared with employees, adapting it to each reality.”
