In 2021, the Generg Group entrusted Centralmed with the mission of managing the occupational health and safety (OHS) areas. Currently, this Group, which provides renewable energy to about one million inhabitants, has a very promising assessment of this partnership. One of the positive aspects is certainly the importance of creating a safer work environment for all its employees.
“Development and progress are compatible with environmental conservation”: this is the central pillar of Generg’s mission. The company was founded in 1988, with the purpose of sustainable electricity production from renewable sources.
Harnessing the energy of water, wind, and sun, Generg thus aims to enhance national endogenous resources. Through the clean energy they produce, they seek to contribute to domestic well-being and the development of the Portuguese industrial fabric. They claim, in this way, to avoid the annual emission of almost 500,000 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere.
Before establishing the partnership with Centralmed, the company faced serious difficulties in maintaining satisfactory (and stable) quality standards in the OHS area. They sought, therefore, support to build a solid and lasting safety culture.
José Henriques, responsible for OHS at Generg, states that one of the biggest challenges was certainly the lack of responses in the field of occupational medicine. In this regard, he particularly highlights “the overdue consultations and the fitness certificates that were never updated.”
Similarly, José Henriques mentions the impact of the previous safety team’s unavailability and inconsistency. This was reflected, for example, in the frequent “failures in the standardization of criteria in audits.” It was evident, therefore, the “urgent need to acquire a cohesive and fixed team that could meet the legal, social, and human demands of a safe work environment.”
According to the OHS manager at Generg, Centralmed immediately addressed the challenges posed by this situation. With “the allocation of experienced and motivated technicians,” says José Henriques, this partnership proved to be “an essential aid in monitoring the company’s activities, updating current legislation, creating work procedures, selecting personal protective equipment, or understanding the chemical products we use.”
“Centralmed made a difference from the start, keeping the OHS area updated regarding legislation, conducting specific assessments of the physical and psychosocial risks to which workers are exposed, helping to prevent the impact of these risks on worker health, ensuring necessary consultations for detecting occupational diseases, or helping to identify internal improvements we can make.”

This collaboration with Generg, initiated in 2021, has certainly borne significant fruit. The Group dedicated to renewable energies emphasizes the cooperative work between the two entities. It also recalls that Centralmed responded to the lack of experience in this specific sector with “availability, openness to learning, and a constant pursuit of improving and updating knowledge.”
José Henriques highlights the monitoring and supervision, in terms of OHS, of the most risky activities. Namely, those carried out at heights and those involving electrical risks. Similarly, he underscores the importance of “specific assessments of psychosocial risks and noise assessments, among other physical agents.”
When asked about the relationship with Centralmed and all its professionals, the OHS manager at Generg was very positive. In particular, he emphasized the team’s ability “to establish a partnership with the client based on dedication, adaptability, and competence.”
